The Run For A Million expands its competitive lineup in 2026 with the $50,000 added Breakaway Roping Showcase, presented by Shorty's Caboy Hattery in partnership with Premier Women's Rodeo and Ultimate Calf Roping.
The Showcase highlights the explosive growth of rodeo's fastest event, bringing many of the sport's top female athletes to one of the most prestigious stages in Western sports. Twenty ropers make the field: eight invited champions and twelve who earned it in the arena.
Partnering with Premier Women's Rodeo allows us to introduce one of the fastest-growing events in rodeo to The Run For A Million audience. Breakaway roping has captured tremendous fan interest, and we are proud to welcome these outstanding athletes.

What is breakaway roping?
Breakaway roping is a sprint. A calf gets a head start, horse and roper explode from the box behind it, and the whole contest is usually over in less time than it takes to read this sentence.
The fastest event in rodeo, decided in seconds.
One clean loop
Horse rates the calf, roper throws, and the catch has to be clean around the neck. There is no second loop worth anything at this level.
The string snaps
The rope is tied to the saddle horn with a string. The horse stops, the calf hits the end, the string breaks away, the flag drops, and the clock stops.
