$100,000 Added • First 2027 Qualifier • August 12
A Category 1 NRHA event and the first road into next year. The top five finishers punch their ticket to the 2027 Million Dollar Competition.
The Format
The Shootout is a Category 1 NRHA event with $100,000.00 in added money, run Wednesday morning at South Point Arena on Pattern 9.
The stakes go beyond the purse. The 2026 field is already set, so the top 5 individual exhibitors here qualify for the 2027 Million Dollar Competition, the richest event in the history of reining. The road to next August begins Wednesday morning.
Riders are only eligible to qualify once: one ticket per rider into the 2027 field.
The Sport
Reining is a judged event where horse and rider run a set pattern of maneuvers: circles at speed, rollbacks, spins, and the sliding stops that give the sport its signature. Every maneuver is scored, and every point matters when five spots in the Million are on the line.
The Run For A Million is the richest event in the history of reining.
Large fast circles and small slow circles, run on a loose rein. The horse changes leads in the center and holds its speed without being pulled to it.
The horse plants a hind pivot foot and spins in place, sets of complete turns each direction, judged on cadence, correctness, and speed.
From a full run, the horse drops its hindquarters and slides to a stop, the maneuver that made reining famous and fills South Point Arena with dirt and noise.
Judges score each maneuver individually, rewarding degree of difficulty, smoothness, and authority. On Shootout morning, the five best totals in the pen earn a run in the 2027 Million Dollar Competition.

Every run streams live from South Point Arena.
